̶c̶o̶u̶p̶ is a collection of visual poems made from the destruction of a vintage book, The Famous Men and Great Events of the 19th Century (1899). Using a variety of techniques and materials, Toronto-based author Kate Siklosi dismantles and reconstructs the narratives propping up the 'great man' theory and European patriarchal ascendancy, documenting each experiment in historical revisionism with colour photographs. The Blasted Tree has produced a limited edition of 40 hand-bound chapbooks incorporating the materials used in the making of  ̶c̶o̶u̶p̶ : torn up maps, pages from a book, red string, and transparent tape.

In the present age of digital media, the art of publishing and book-binding is quickly being forgotten. The Blasted Tree appreciates the difference between reading a story online and holding a copy in your hands, and we feel the experience of owning a high-quality physical copy should not be lost. Though we make most of our media available online free of charge, physical distribution is how we raise funds to promote our authors and this site. The Blasted Tree is involved at every level of publication, from editing to typesetting, production, and distribution. What better way to support Canadian authors and artists than by purchasing a printed copy of their work?
