Author Notes

by Helen Robertson

It is important for both you and I to remember who I am. I have not lost friends or family from coming out. I am white. I am often read correctly. I am from a middle-class background. No matter how justified any of my anger and frustration may be I am speaking from a very privileged place. I can not communicate anyone’s experience but my own and I do not intend to (and hope I am not thought to) speak for the community as a whole. We must always seek out and boost the voices of those less fortunate than us and try our best to not co-opt them. I can not say that I always succeed, no one can, but I hope I am made aware of any missteps I make and that I am able to accept them graciously and correct myself for the future.
