by Laura Rojas

summer is a deep lagoon
swimming to my ankles
tiny specks of dirt like freckles on my skin
“can I hold you here?”
deep swamp monster,
come after me

summer is a deep lagoon
the way your arms sink freely, slow motion like
the weight of Manhattan sometime in the late afternoon,
the way your legs float freely
under dusk and above water
colourful layers and moments and things

all at once,
everything happens all over
sometimes some things before others
other times nothing at all
