The Sum

And it may go unnoticed
closing slow—
the last patch of grass
covered by snow.

As a word’s many senses.
As the one
facet of an onyx
struck by sun.

And it may come unnoticed
in a thought,
a small white spider
till it drops

as starlight spun from bluer
black— bereft,
the aggregate of everything
that’s left.
